Gujarat Government issued directions on procurement of medicines from PMBJK stores

Industry Specific ComplianceThe Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, on August 11, 2026, has issued directions regarding the procurement of medicines by the Government and GMERS medical colleges, hospitals, district and sub-district hospitals from Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK) stores, superseding its earlier circular dated August 29, 2025.

The following has been stated:

Medicines may be procured from PMBJK stores only when GMSCL is unable to supply medicines due to absence of a Rate Contract or inability to supply despite an existing Rate Contract. Such procurement shall be limited to generic medicines included in GMSCL’s Essential Drug List (EDL) and shall not include imported, branded or branded EDL medicines. Procurement of any single medicine from PMBJK stores shall not exceed 20% of its total annual requirement, with a maximum procurement of two months’ requirement subject to the prescribed tender conditions. Details of such purchases shall be uploaded on GMSCL’s E-Aushadhi portal at the time of accepting the supply.
